The official policy basis of Portuguese immigration comes from August 2012. If a citizen of a non EU country purchases one or more properties (both residential and commercial), as long as the total value reaches 500000 euros, the main applicant, his spouse and children under the age of 18 can obtain the right of residence in Portugal within two months. After obtaining the right of abode, the investor is required to live for 7 days in the first year, and then live for at least 14 days every two years. After 5 years, he can apply for permanent residence.
